Mrs. Gelenia Aaron Frencher is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. As a child, she was raised at the First Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Charlotte. On June 1, 1985, she married the “love of her life,” Rev. Michael A. Frencher, Sr. After their union, she joined herself to the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. She was the First Lady of St. Stephen (Hamlet, NC), Wesley Center (Pittsburgh, Pa.) Trinity A.M.E.Z (Greensboro, NC). They became an inseparable team placing God first in their lives and their commitment of service to others. She has demonstrated, in many ways, her love and dedication to being a servant leader and missionary extraordinaire. For 20 years, she served with her husband at Trinity A.M.E. Zion Church and has been involved with many ministries. Her involvement included the following: President of the West Central North Carolina Conference Home Missions, Greensboro District Young Adult Missionary Society Coordinator, National Minister Spouses and Widower’s Fellowship, Deaconess, Marriage Ministry, member of the Sunday School, Christian Education Department and Young Adults in Christian Ministries, Director of the 21st Century Program and Summer Camping Program. In addition, she is a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Mrs. Frencher received the Bachelor of Science degree at Bennett College and completed additional studies at North Carolina A&T State University. After serving as a Head Start teacher with the Guilford Child Development Program, she was later employed as a teacher with the Guilford County School System. On Friday, July 20, 2012, at the 49th Quadrennial Session of the General Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church, she stood proudly with her husband as he was elected the 101st bishop in the line of succession in the A.M.E. Zion Church. His first Episcopal assignment was to the Eastern West Africa Episcopal District, and she assumed her position as his Missionary Supervisor. At the 50th Session of the General Conference, she became the Missionary Supervisor for the Southwestern Delta Episcopal District. At the 51st Session of the General Conference, she became the Missionary Supervisor for the Mid-West Episcopal District. Bishop and Mrs. Frencher are the proud parents of two children: Michelle and Michael Jr., a mother-in-love to Brandon Bell, Sr., and Rev. Anita Morgan Frencher, and proud grandmother to Brandon Jamell Bell Jr. (affectionately known as “BB”), Michael A. Frencher III (affectionately known as Trey), and Braylen James Bell. Her love and faithfulness to God, commitment to her husband, children, and grandchildren, and her membership in our great denomination will guide her to greater heights in the Africa Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. “To God be the glory for the things He has done.”
